1970 Anysley Mayflower Commemorative China Bowl
Commemorative china piece by Aynsley China in England, marked on the side of the small standing bowl, candy dish or compote, as made "To Commemorate the 350th Anniversary of the Sailing of the Pilgrim Fathers". This china celebrates the sailing of the ship The Mayflower to America, and is decorated in the center with a color picture of the ship, details of when it sailed, landed and more, followed by words from then colonial Governor William Bradford. Since the piece states a sailing and arrival date of 1620, the 350th anniversary would indicate that it was issued in 1970.
The bowl stands about 2 inches in height, has a top opening diameter of about 5 1/8 inches, and a smaller short base with a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. There is gold line trim to the top and base edges, which are also scalloped. Excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or gold wear. There is a very, very fine crazing throughout the piece that is very hard to see (we had to use a loop to see this). We also see some pin/pit dots and a few tiny light brown dots. The white "hot spots" in the images are lighting reflection from the camera on the glossy surfaces.
A wonderful piece which would make a great gift for anyone interested in the Mayflower Sailing ship, the voyage of the Mayflower to America, the Pilgrim Fathers and Governor William Bradford, early colonial history or the American colonies, or anyone who is a descendant of those who made this great pilgrimage.
