1218
Spode Hammersley China Strawberry Ripe Sugar and Creamer Set We believe this to be a never used sugar and creamer set which was made by Hammersley China in their discontinued Strawberry Ripe pattern (we do not know when this pattern was discontinued). This item is also listed in our Spode section since Hammersley China is part of the Spode company. Please also see our separate listing for the matching teapot. We are selling all three pieces for a relative who received these from yet another relative years ago. We believe them all to have never been used because they were kept together wrapped in paper or plastic and the teapot still has its original purchase sticker on it.

Both of the small sugar & creamer bone china pieces are marked on the underside bases with the Hammersley crown and the words, "Strawberry Ripe, Hammersley & Co. Bone China, Made in England, Member of Spode Group". The underside of the creamer also has the marker "H78". The pieces have a white porcelain base (they are translucent) with an attractive design showing strawberry plants with their white flowers with yellow centers, green leaves, brown stems and some luscious red berries. Each piece has gold line top edge trim, with gold lines also on the handle of the creamer. The sugar and open top (no lid) creamer are small in size, suggesting to us that they were intended to provide service for two.

Round sugar sits about 1 1/2 inches in height with a diameter of 3 inches. Round creamer flares out slightly from the top rim towards the bottom, then curves inward to a smaller round base. This piece sits about 1 3/4 inches in height with a greatest width of about 4 1/8 inches from spout tip to outer edge of handle, and a base diameter of 2 5/8 inches. We have provided 6 images including close-ups of the design and the manufacturer markings on the base. Please note that the white "hot spots" in the images are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. These reflections fade the coloring of the pieces a bit in the images, with the colors appearing brighter, bolder and more lovely in person.

Condition is superb and in accordance with probably never having been used. We see no chips, cracks, crazing, or other major flaws. We haven't seen any scratches or use defects. Apparently as made, there are pin/pit/glaze dots and some stray dark dots on the interiors and exteriors of the pieces, but nothing to worry about at all.

A terrific set to find never used in this wonderful pattern. Would make a great addition to any set of this Hammersley china or just a neat gift for someone who loves strawberries!

Spode Hammersley China Strawberry Ripe Teapot We believe this to be a never used small teapot which was made by Hammersley China in their discontinued Strawberry Ripe pattern (we do not know when this pattern was discontinued). This item is also listed in our Spode section since Hammersley China is part of the Spode company. Please also see our separate listing for the matching sugar and creamer. We are selling all three pieces for a relative who received these years ago from yet another relative. We believe them all to have never been used because they were kept together wrapped in paper or plastic and the teapot still has its original purchase sticker on it on one side.

The teapot is marked on the underside base with the Hammersley crown and the words, "Strawberry Ripe, Hammersley & Co. Bone China, Made in England, Member of Spode Group". The teapot base and its separate small top lid have a white porcelain base (they are translucent) with an attractive design showing strawberry plants with their white flowers with yellow centers, green leaves, brown stems and many luscious red berries. The teapot base has gold line edge trim on the top rim, rim of the spout, and edges of the open angular handle, with gold decorative lines also on the handle and spout neck. The teapot lid also has gold line edging and a small gold line circle on the top center handle. This is a small size teapot which we believe was intended to provide service for two.

The teapot with lid sits about 4 1/2 inches in height. The greatest width of the base piece from outer edge of the handle to the tip of the spout is about 6 1/4 inches, with a depth of about 4 1/4 inches. We have provided 8 images including close-ups of the design, price sticker and the manufacturer markings on the base. Please note that the white "hot spots" in the images are reflections from the camera lighting on the glossy surface. On this piece, the coloring in the images is a pretty good representation of what it is in person, although in person the coloring is still a little bit brighter/bolder.

The purchase sticker shows that the teapot was originally bought from Cave Shepherd Co. Ltd., which appears in blue at the top. Under this are four rows of numbers and letters, not any words, which all are very faded but still largely readable. From some quick internet research, Cave Shepherd today appears to be a Caribbean company selling retail and duty free on 12 islands. On the purchase sticker, the final number on the bottom right seems to us to be a price of 45.44 dollars (in whatever currency). Given the layout of the sticker, what is on it and the probable price denomination, it does not appear to us like normal U.S. price stickers, suggesting that this teapot was purchased by the original owner during Caribbean travel, although we do not know when.

Condition is wonderful and largely in accordance with probably never having been used. We do note that there are multiple tiny chips and flakes along the underside bottom rim on which the piece sits. This suggests that either the piece was purchased this way or it may have been transported or stored in a manner which created these. They are minor and not visible when the piece is sitting on a table, but you should know they are there. On close inspection, the steam hole in the top lid has a tiny tiny inner chip, but we feel certain this is how it was made. We see no other chips, cracks, crazing, or major flaws. We haven't seen any scratches or use defects. Also apparently as made, there are pin/pit/glaze dots, stray colored transfer dots and some stray dark dots on the interior and exterior of the teapot and inner side of the lid, but nothing to worry about.

A terrific teapot to find never used in this wonderful pattern. Would make a great addition to any set of this Hammersley china or a collection of teapots in general, or just a neat gift for someone who loves strawberries or a nice cup of afternoon tea.
