2695
Ballard #21 shape ovoid top rectangular vase roduced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this shape seems to be one of the early ones by Ballard which didn't make it to the later production period. The vase measures 5 1/2 inches high x 5 1/4 inches wide. The opening is 4 1/4 inches long x 2 3/8 inches wide. Each one I own either has no shape number or is number 21 with the early chocolate brown band around the bottom dating it from his middle period of production. This vase carried neither the shape number nor the Ballard signature which makes it very unusual. The chocolate underglaze can be seen at the top and underneath the mottling on the body. This early white glaze is stunning. There is a slight blue tint to the glaze at the top of the piece. The vase is in excellent condition. A very interesting shape and glaze combo by Stanley Ballard. Add it to your American Art Pottery collection or Studio pottery collection today.

4626
Ballard studio early #20 shape white vase Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this 4 inch tall #20 shape vase is a transitional piecefrom his early studio period as it has a heavily mottled white overglaze and a deep chocolate underglaze which can be clearly seen on the interior of the piece. Probably from his middle production period as there is a chocolate brown band near the base which was not present on the earliest studio work. The writing on the bottom of the piece can be seen when one looks down from the top at the bottom of the piece. This only happened in very early studio pieces. There is a rub on the small side near the bottom where this vase when fired must have been touching another piece. Overall, a good strong example of early Stanley Ballard.

Ballard #91 large stepped circular vase Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this Ballard white mottled #91 4 3/4 inch round vase is in excellent condition. The graduated stepped base is very unusual for Ballard . I think this shape is from his later studio period.

5241
Ballard turquoise mottled maple syrup jug Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this commercial 3 inch maple syrup jug was glazed in one of his mottled glazes which he used on some production pieces. This turquoise based glaze shows the chocolate underglaze as well as an early white glaze.

The piece is signed simply 'Hand Made in Vermont', but is shown as a Ballard product in the Summer 1953 Vermont Life 6 page article on Stanley Ballard. Excellent condition. A great combo of Vermont product and Vermont Studio Art pottery from the Mid Century period.

2545
Ballard #20 shape early mottled glaze vase Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this early number 20 shape vase has no incised #20 number which dates it from his early period. The side walls are irregularly shaped which makes me think it was hand thrown as opposed to his later #20 vases which are uniform in shape and glazing. The base is the earliest recessed type, so I would date this vase from 1945-1948

In excellent condition, it stands 4 1/8' inches high x 4 inches wide at lip. The white glaze has such wonderful mottling that it makes the vase appear almost gray.

2653
Ballard #20 shape early studio vase Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this vase is an early version of the later marked #20 vases. It is slightly irregular in shape at the top rim and may have been hand thrown. It stands 4 1/4 inches high. It is marked S Ballard Vermont but with no shape number.

The very heavy mottling on the top part of the vas where a lot of chocolate brown underglaze can be seen indicates it is a very early piece as it also has the chocolate brown bottom band at the base. It is in excellent condition. Add it to your American Art Pottery or Stanley Ballard collection today.

2703
Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this is one of Ballard's smallest vases, the number 40 shape. It stands 2 1/2 inches tall and is 2 5/8 inches square at the top. This particular example carries the original Ballard paper label which states Hand Made Porcelain A Product of Vermont Craftsmanship.

The glaze on this small piece is a standard Ballard white glaze with the chocolate brown underglaze visible at the top rim and at the very bottom of the base. This dates this piece to Ballard's middle production period.

Ballard 19 dark turquoise flared vase Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this signed S. Ballard number 19 shape vase has a very unusual dark blue glaze with very little blending at the top of the vase. It stands 5 5/8 inches tall and is 5 1/8 inches across at the mouth. Although the glaze is very uniform on the outside, the inside shows mottling on the inside rim and the bottom has the chocolate brown band characteristic of Ballard's midde period of production. It is in excellent condition with just some firing cracks on the inside top rim (see photo). Add it to your American Art Pottery collection or Stanley Ballard collection today.

4570-b
Ballard early piecrust rim 8 inch glaze bowl Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this Ballard piecrust rim 8 inch diameter bowl is the middle size in the line of piecrust bowls. It is a very early piece with the indented base. The base glaze is a very early heavily satured turquoise blue upon which random drizzles of the chocolate brown glaze have been added, making a very nice abstact design, typical of the Mid-Century period and aesthetic. There are some glaze skips in the crimps of the piecrust rim but this is origina to its making. A one-of-a-kind early American Art Pottery bowl by a very talented graduate of Alfred Unversity. It is in excellent condition. It is signed with Ballard's very early loop d signature, mostly likely from the 1945-1950 period.

Ballard yellow Vermont handled syrup jug Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this Ballard 4 inch tall maple syrup jug is not signed on the bottom but matches others in my collection which are signed. The glaze is a light yellow with an overglaze application of a rose colored drip glaze. The word VERMONT is in relief on the front. This Vermont marked syrup jug was probably a contract piece done by Ballard for a local syrup maker. Excellent condition.
