Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard, a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this early number 20 shape vase has no incised #20 number which dates it from his early period. The side walls are irregularly shaped which makes me think it was hand thrown as opposed to his later #20 vases which are uniform in shape and glazing. The base is the earliest recessed type, so I would date this vase from 1945-1948 In excellent condition, it stands 4 1/8' inches high x 4 inches wide at lip. The white glaze has such wonderful mottling that it makes the vase appear almost gray. |
