| I asked an old-time maple syrup maker when this particular 5 inch diameter vintage tin was made. It stands 1 5/8 inches tall. His reply was in the 1950s or 1960s. He told me it was made to hold maple sugar in cube form, a popular way maple sugar was sold back then. It features a typical maple sugaring scene of a worker with yolk and spa buckets arriving at the sugarhouse in the woods. A pair of horses await there as well. It carries the simple words MAPLE PRODUCTS on the front. It is in very good shape considering its age. There is one area of paint loss near the bottom white area. The rest of the wear is consistent to the age of the tin. The tin was most likely made in Vermont as well, perhaps up in Swanton Vermont. A great decorative piece for your wall, kitchen or use it to transport your nuts of candies. |
