Manufacturer: Bovano, Cheshire, CT Produced by the Cheshire CT firm of Bovano (started in 1953 by John BOnsignor, Gene VAn Leight and Warren NOden), this 6 inch wide square early Bovano plate is unusual for a few reasons. First, although the label on the back was put on in its usual position, the decoration on the front was place in the diamond position of the plate. IT features a crowing cock or rooster but it was done with the use of negative space. Tiny red, green and gold jewels decorate his comb and tail and are coming out of this beak. The design uses the early white enamel which Brower used in his work. My feeling is that this is a very early Bovano piece and may in fact have been a Brower design.
It is in excellent condition. Add it to your Bovano or Midcentury enamel collection today.
