Manufacturer: Stanley Ballard, Burlington Vermont
Produced by Vermont Mid-Century studio potter Stanley Ballard (1917-1960), a student of Glidden Parker at Alfred University in the 1940s who worked in the Burlington area, this Ballard #45 three toed vase or planter is very unusual in several aspects. First, on the bottom the standard Ballard mark is split into three parts, one on each foot. Secondly the original price os $2.50 is crossed out and another price of $1.25 is written. Perhaps this shape was not a good seller. Glazed in the standard white blended glaze, it features a biomorphic lobed rim and stands 4 3/4 inches high and is 6 inches in diameter at its widest point. |
