Circa: 1945-1970 Manufacturer: Dorothy C. Thorpe
This signature silver rim design was created by Dorothy Thorpe, a prolific ceramic and glassware designer working in the forties and fifties, whose designs have been admired and emulated to this day.
Thorpe was born in Salt Lake City in 1901, and after graduating from the University of Utah she moved to Glendale, California, in the 1930s. There, she began designing glassware and ceramics.
She did not blow the glassware herself; instead, she purchased prefabricated glasses and used different techniques to manipulate the material, like sandblasting patterns and adding the thick silver bands you see here.
This group of five 5 oz silver rim roly polys would look great with a Mad Men theme retro bar. One of them has some wear to the silver rim. I have added the ice tub to this lot as an extra treat. It is in excellent condition and looks like it was never used. I hope that using these gorgeous Mid century era glasses gives you hours of enjoyment and style.
The glasses and the ice tub are in excellent vintage condition. Add them to your Hollywood Regency Mid century collection today. |
