Circa: 1950-1970 Manufacturer: Bitossi, Flavia, Aldo Londi, Montelupo, Italy
This elegant vase is typical of the work of Bitossi – or more precisely the artistic wing of Bitossi called Flavia - where Aldo Londi, was Art Director from 1946. Based in Montelupo, Tuscany, Bitossi exported pieces from Italy under both the Raymor and Rosenthal Netter labels.
This is a striking Bitossi Italy vase using a chocolate brown, orange, and yellow combination of colors in a high gloss glazed vase. This combination of colors was used extensively by the Rosenthal-Netter line popular in the 1950s-1960s from Bitossi. The vase stands 12 inches tall and is 5 1/2 inches in diameter at the base. A very large striking piece which weighs almost 5 pounds!
The middle of the vase is decorated with a series of triangles over what I believe was a base white glaze. The triangles are outlined in the chocolate brown glaze. It is in excellent vintage condition and would display well on a Eames McCobb era credenza! There is small glaze skip on the top rim but I believe this happened in its manufacture.
It is signed on the bottom 941'A and the famous conjoined IT Italy mark. It most likely carried either a Raymor or Rosenthal-Netter paper label.
