Circa: 1950-1970 Manufacturer: Corning Glass Works, Corning, New York
Shown on page 163 of the new revised Mauzy 2004 Pyrex book, pattern was called Colonial Mist. A four bowl set can be seen on page 108.
This is the largest bowl in the 4 bowl set. The shape was referred to as a Cinderella bowl. Cinderella bowls were introduced in 1958 as an alternative to batter bowls. One could pour from either side. The price in Mauzy's book for a complete 4 bowl set is $55-75. Usually the larger the bowl the more value when they are sold individually. So, my price is very reasonable for this bowl.
This deep blue Colonial Blue paint is in incredible condition The white silkscreened flower band around the middle of the piece is also in excellent condition. The inside has some wear on the sides where the other bowls in the set would have rubbed against it. It is a bowl to buy and use or just display on a shelf as the exterior is in excellent vintage condition.
Go green! Save resources and purchase a piece of America's past. Sturdy, dependable, dishwasher-friendly, it is ready for your kitchen today.
The condition is excellent overall. The #401 is excellent. I purchased it of ebay. The #402 has some wear on it but only when held up to the light. The #403 is excellent. The hard to find $404 has inside knife wear and a wear to the outside but displays well. If you have a 50s kitchen, this set is for you. The price is reasonable especially as Mauzy prices the set in the $100-$120 range. Value of this iconic set will continue to rise I am sure. Add it to your Pyrex or kitchenware collection today. Shipping is $15 inside US and at least $20 internationally depending on which shipping service is chosen. |
