Manufacturer: Noritake
This Noritake Deco VP 771 motif griffin cup & saucer set is wild! It's exact design is shown on p. 130 of Van Patten Second Series as Plate #771. Featuring vibrant yellow, rust red, bright blue, purple and green, this is probably inspired by a European style, either Italian or Gouda. See the wares of Deruta for comparable items. There is a also a stylized "fleur-de-lis" in the center of the plate, which is flanked by two mythological griffin type birds. Red wreath mark. The underplate is unsigned as was typical with these multi-piece sets. This is also the part of the set which is often missing. It is in excellent condition.
