6130

Culver glass Black Stars Gold Martini pitcher The Culver Glass company began in Brooklyn, New York in 1939, founded by Irving Rothenberg. Culver Glass features real 22-karat gold decoration, used effusively and magnificently especially from the late 1950s on through the 1960s.

This cool martini pitcher stands 10 1/2 inches tall and is 2 7/8 inches across the top and 2 7/8 inches across the bottom. The decoration is one main panel. A seven inch tall black rectangle features a gold star or snowflake shape with gold starburst behind it. The other panel is the same starbursts on clear glass. It is in excellent vintage condition.

Think Mad Men, the Playboy club and the Rat Pack! Think Las Vegas! Think retro barware! Add it to your barware or Mid-century glass collection today. Make some ice cubes in those vintage metal trays and stir up a great retro cocktail!

Click for more detail...

6202-6304

pair M. A. Hadley barware coasters From the M.A. Hadley site is the following information:

"Hand-crafted Pottery Since 1940
Owing to the abundance of ancient clay deposits in the region, Louisville has been a center of pottery-making for generations. Out of this proud tradition, Mary Alice Hadley established one of Louisville’s most iconic and well-known potteries. The story begins in the early 1900’s. Mary Alice Hadley was born into a family of clay tile makers where her knowledge of working with clay first developed. Exhibiting an early interest in art and design, she ultimately became a widely recognized painter, winning numerous awards and acclaim from New York to Los Angeles.

By the late 1930’s Mary Alice Hadley began melding her artistic talent with her knowledge of clay ware. In 1939, Mrs. Hadley made dishes for her houseboat on the Ohio River. The creative result was a set of a custom dishes that caused such a stir among her friends and acquaintances that the idea for a business was born. Supplying those early requests provided wide circulation for her hand-crafted pottery and soon orders began to arrive from across the country. With the help of her husband, George, the Hadley Pottery Company was formed early in 1940.

In 1944, George Hadley purchased a building in the Butchertown area of Louisville as a birthday present for Mary Alice. The building, constructed in 1848, has been home to a wool mill, a candle factory and a cordage mill and for 65 years has served as the production location, factory salesroom and offices of Hadley Pottery Company. Many pieces of original art created by Mary Alice Hadley are still on display at the historic structure on Story Avenue, including several wall murals all hand-painted by Mary Alice herself.

The business prospered, attracting collectors from across the nation and around the world. The warm and whimsical designs that Mary Alice Hadley created have attracted multitudes of fans over the last 70 years and are still finding their way into the hearts of new Hadley Pottery enthusiasts every day. She worked at the Pottery until her death in 1965. George Hadley continued to run the business until it was sold in 1979 to Louisville natives, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth W. Moore. In September 2009, new partners joined the Hadley Pottery ownership group, but operations remain largely the same as they were when the company was started. The creative inspiration that Mary Alice Hadley brought to the ware still lives today."

These funky and celebratory coasters carries the words "Here's to You" and "Congratulation & Best Wishes". They are signed M.A. Hadley on the reverse. I don't know if these coasters are vintage or contemporary. You be the judge. I do know they are listed in current inventory on the M. A. Hadley website at $9.75 each.

set 4 classic frosted silver martini glasses Herei is a set of classic Art Deco inspired martini glasses in the classic martini cocktail shape! Each glass stands 4 1/8 inches tall x 3 1/8 inches across the top.

Both the foot and the top band are frosted glass both decorated with a thin silver rim. There are three silver bands on the top. This could well be Dorothy Thorpe stemware but I am not sure. It certainly would go well with those Mad Men inspired stemware items.

The set is in excellent condition and will be ready for your next cocktail / house party. Go green! Save resources and purchase a piece of the past. It is ready for your home today.

I don't know if these coasters are vintage or contemporary. You be the judge. I do know they are listed in current inventory on the M. A. Hadley website at $9.75 each. In addition, I am including this 8 3/4 inch custom message plate. On the front it has the name DIAINE and on the back the date May 16, 1981 as well as the Hadley signature.

My price for the group is well below that figure for the set of four. Price is for the set. Each piece of the set is in excellent condition.

Great blue and gold barware ice bowl What a great addition to your barware collection or bar! This ice bowl or ice tub is American made glass, most likely from the 1950s or early 1960s when it was quite popular to screen gold stylized decoration onto glass items. Cobalt blue squares are separated by gold bars. Each blue square has a stylized gold sun inside. It is a great looking piece with a gold rim. It is gently used but ready to serve many more years in your home. It stands 4 3/4 inches tall and is 5 3/4 inches across the top. Time to make some ice and break out the cocktail recipes!

3852

Royal Haeger 1836 Jewel Tone 10 This Royal Haeger 1836 Jewel Tone 10' 'ashbowl' is a beauty. The 'Jewel Tone' glaze shown on this piece can be seen as early as 1958 in the company catalogs. Later called Ebony/Jewel Tone, this type of glaze was also produced by the Italian ceramicists who produced items for the Raymor line imported into this country around the same time.

The glaze was created by placing pieces of real glass on the matte black glaze and firing it together. The melting glass fused with the matte glaze, producing a beautiful effect which looks like crystals are included in the piece. It is stunning!

This piece has one tiny flake on one of the raised feet on the bottom. It does not detract from the piece in my opinion.

Add it to your Mid Century pottery or Royal Haeger ashtray collection today.
